How To Make Short Ribs In The Oven is one of those recipes that render pure goodness. I have always loved making this recipe for my family, they think it is divine. Short Ribs honestly is no fuss and no effort in my opinion. Please do not be distracted by thinking that this is a hard dish to prepare, it truly is not.

Even if you are not a true cook this is something that can be done by a true beginner. I have been cooking ever since I was 11, and I have taught this recipe to my boys for future reference. Let this blog recipe be simple and effortless.

Choosing The Right Oil For The Ribs…

Choosing the right oil honestly doesn’t really matter, but I love EVOO (Extra Virgin Olive Oil). This is only used to give me that crust on the beef to seal in the flavor and create that rich brown gravy I want for the meat. This is the most important step in the process in my opinion because it’s all downhill from there. Please make sure to not burn the meat, but brown it a bit to get that flavor going for the oven.

There are other types of oils that you can use for the short ribs may be a ……

Vegetable Oil- This is going to even do an even more bang-up job for the taste.

Olive Oil– This will also do a beautiful job, and be more on the low-fat end of the dish.

Peanut Oil– I do not recommend using this, it is best used when frying chicken, fries, or seafood.

Dusting With Flour First…

I like to dust my short ribs with flour and a little bit of cornstarch. This is going to give the ribs the crust that you are looking for.

Cooking For Hours..

Cooking short ribs for hours allows them to get extremely tender, and to fall off the bone. My family waits for these to be done because they are either looking forward to rice or mashed potatoes. I love the gravy that they have it gives off so much flavor. I also feel like my green bean recipe would go great with this meal altogether. Recently I ran across this recipe, and it looked amazing prepared.

Ingredients:

Follow These Cooking Instructions….

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (150°C).
  2. Season the short ribs with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and cajun seasoning on both sides.
  3. Heat a large oven-safe pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add a drizzle of olive oil and sear the short ribs on all sides until they are browned. This should take about 2-3 minutes per side.
  4. Remove the short ribs from the pot and set aside.
  5. In the same pot, add the diced onion and minced garlic. Cook until the onions are translucent, about 5 minutes.
  6. Add the beef broth, red wine (if using), thyme, and bay leaves to the pot. Stir to combine.
  7. If you don’t have enough beef broth to cover you may add water to finish covering them.
  8. Return the short ribs to the pot, making sure they are submerged in the liquid.
  9. Cover the pot with a lid or foil and place it in the preheated oven. Cook for 3-4 hours, or until the short ribs are tender and falling off the bone.
  10. Remove the pot from the oven and let the short ribs rest for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy!

Optional: If you want to add some vegetables to the pot, you can add diced carrots, celery, and potatoes along with the onions and garlic in step 5. Just make sure to increase the cooking time to 4-5 hours to ensure that the vegetables are fully cooked.
